Merrill Area Public Schools Regular Board of Education Meeting January 15, 2025 – Minutes The meeting was called to order by Blake at 5:30 PM in the Board Room. Board members present: Ashbeck, De Rizzo, Hornischer, Gremler, Liberty, Woller, and Blake. Board members absent: Proulx and Smith. Others present: Superintendent Murray, MAPS Administrators, Student Reps Black and Wagenaar, approximately 23 people from the staff and public, and Recorder Woller. Smith arrived at 5:42 p.m. MOTION by Woller, second by Ashbeck to table the FY annual financial audit agenda item. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Ashbeck, second by Liberty to approve the Head Start Transportation Waiver for the 2025-2026 school year. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Liberty, second by Hornischer to approve the classroom capacity for open enrollment purposes and to not deny students with disabilities based on space, for the 2025-2026 open enrollment period. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Smith, second by Hornischer to select Kobussen Buses as the new contractor starting with the 2025-2026 school year. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Liberty, second by Hornischer to approve the 2025-2027 Administrator Contract and the 2025-2027 Superintendent Contract. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Ashbeck, second by Hornischer to approve the Phase 1 strategic planning process documents as presented (or as modified). Motion carried with De Rizzo abstaining from the vote. MOTION by Ashbeck, second by Woller to approve the donation of funds from Incredible Bank valued at $3,000 for Washington Lighted Schoolhouse materials and student activities. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by De Rizzo, second by Hornischer to approve the donation of funds from Laura Lussier-Lee and Eric Lee valued at $2,500 for using as needed at the Evjue School Forest. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by De Rizzo, second by Woller to approve the donation of funds from Lincoln County ARC - Ristau Fund valued at $3,000 for Special Olympics. Motion carried unanimously. MOTION by Liberty, second by Gremler to approve consent agenda items a through d, which includes minutes of the December 18, 2024, and January 7, 2025, meetings; claims, vouchers and receipts totaling $2,980,422.59; donations totaling $15,634.00; and, the attached personnel report, contingent upon release of contract for hirings and upon the satisfaction of the appropriate liquidated damages for resignations, if applicable. Motion carried with Woller abstaining from the December 18, 2024 minutes; and, Hornischer abstaining from the January 7, 2025 minutes. MOTION by Ashbeck, second by Hornischer to adjourn at 6:21 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
